Shin Splints Treatment in Oak Creek

Holding legShin splints are a common source of lower leg pain, especially for athletes and active individuals. This condition often affects runners, soccer players, and anyone who participates in activities that involve repetitive impact on the legs. The pain is usually felt along the front or inside edge of the shin and can worsen with activity.

At Oak Creek Relief & Wellness, we help patients find relief from shin splints by identifying the underlying cause and creating a personalized treatment plan.

What Causes Shin Splints?

Shin splints often develop from repetitive stress placed on the muscles and tissues that support the shin bone. Sports that involve running, jumping, or sudden changes in direction can put strain on the lower leg muscles, particularly the anterior tibialis.

Foot structure and biomechanics can also play a major role. The feet contain three arches that help support the body and absorb impact. When one or more of these arches begins to collapse or lose support, the body’s alignment can change. This added stress can travel up the legs and contribute to inflammation and pain in the shin muscles.

What to Expect During Care

Our chiropractors perform a detailed evaluation to determine the cause of your shin pain. This includes assessing the muscles of the lower leg as well as evaluating foot structure and overall biomechanics.

Treatment may include instrument assisted soft tissue therapy, often known as the Graston Technique. This technique helps break up scar tissue and adhesions in the affected muscles, allowing the tissue to heal and move more freely.

Laser therapy may also be used to support healing in the irritated muscle tissue. This therapy helps reduce inflammation and encourages the body’s natural repair process.

In many cases, custom three-arch orthotics are recommended. These shoe inserts support the natural structure of the foot and improve alignment throughout the legs, which can significantly reduce stress on the shin muscles during daily activities and sports.

A Patient Success Story

One of our high school athletes, who plays both soccer and golf, came to our office with severe shin splints in both legs just before soccer season. The pain was so intense he believed he might not be able to play. After receiving soft tissue therapy, laser treatment, and custom orthotics, his symptoms improved dramatically. Today, he is back on the field playing soccer without pain.
